"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

10% in 10 Days

It's been 10 days since I've provided any updates on the donations Mom and I have received. I'm happy to report that in that time, we've jumped another 10% of the way toward our goal!

First, I want to thank our friend, Kerry, for her donation. Kerry, who is Mom and Dad's dental hygienist (and mine during college), lost a friend to breast cancer a few years ago. Following her friend's death, Kerry and her friend's mom participated in the New York Breast Cancer 3-Day. I think Mom and I were especially touched by Kerry's donation because we didn't send her an email asking for support. When Mom went to her dentist appointment recently, she mentioned in passing that she and I were doing the walk. Kerry went to the 3-Day website and found our individual web pages and made a contribution to each of us. It was such a nice surprise to receive her generous gift!

I also want to thank my friend and former coworker, Regan, another 3-Day veteran. She and her brother have participated in the Seattle 3-Day walk in the past. Regan and I worked together at HSI, and she and her husband are now living back in the Seattle area. I'm so thankful for her contribution!

Finally, Mom and I owe a huge thank you to Rosie, who has been our friend and neighbor for almost 25 years. Ever since we moved to Ridgewood when I was 10, Rosie has been part of our lives. She is the mother of my sister's best friend, Grant, and lives right around the corner from Mom and Dad. We've always been able to count on her for anything, and her contribution to our walk is another reflection of her generous spirit.

As of today, we have received $4247.66 in donations, and we're 71% of the way to our hoped-for $6000! Mom and I are so appreciative of this support.
