"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

Today, I Walked 20 Miles!

Today, I walked 20 miles! 20.2 miles, to be precise. And I feel great! My feet are rather sore, but my legs and the rest of me are just fine, and I feel as if I could go out and walk 20 miles again tomorrow. Which is not to say I will. . .

I walked from Arlington to Bethesda and back again, on this unexpected gift of a 75-degree day in early August. About two-thirds of the way through the walk, I stopped for lunch with my dear friend, Lynn, who lives not far from Washington National Cathedral.

Tonight, Robbie and I are having dinner with Belle, Gary, and Sammie, and I think I might just eat everything that's not nailed down!
