"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

Infinite Thanks

Regular readers of this blog should, by now, be aware of how important my friend, Belle, is to me. I am infinitely thankful that I met her back when I was training for the 2006 breast cancer walk, and she enriches my life in countless ways. Today, I want to give a huge thank you to Belle, Gary, and Sammie, who gave a generous donation to Mom and me yesterday. Their support means so much to both of us, and we are so grateful. I will miss having Belle by my side on this year's walk, but I know that she'll be with us every step of the way just the same.

And I also want to thank my coworker, Ben, for his contribution to the walk. I have been hesitant about saying too much about the walk at work, because I in no way want to pressure my coworkers to give me money. But Ben offered all on his own, and as soon as I sent him an email last night with links to the walk website, he sent in a donation. In addition to having a generous spirit, Ben is a tremendous athlete. He has patiently answered all of my many walk-related questions, such as: "Ben, look at my sneakers--do I need new ones?" "Hey, Ben, I have tons of blisters. Should I keep walking on them, or should I take some time off?" "Gatorade, Ben, or Powerade? Which is better?" For his helpful answers and for his donation and friendship, I am so appreciative. Thanks, Ben!
