"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

A Message to Hanna

Dear Hanna,

I've heard from several reliable sources that you're planning to come into town tomorrow morning. Or, if you're really in a hurry, perhaps even later tonight. I know that you've been busy storing up energy and plotting out your itinerary, so you may not know that I've been busy, too. You see, I'm in the midst of training for a 60-mile walk that my Mom and I will participate in during the first weekend of October. After several weeks of walking all over the place, I'm into the most intense part of my training. Tomorrow, I am planning a 22-mile walk. I really hope that you don't interfere with my plans. Would you please consider a nice visit to the ocean instead of coming here? Perhaps a nice visit far, far out over the ocean?

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours,
Diana

PS - If you would tell any of your as of yet unnamed friends to stay away from here during the weekend of October 3-5, I would be very appreciative.
