"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

Walking to a Reunion

As I mentioned a couple of months ago, while training for the 2000 3-Day, I was lucky to meet a wonderful group of women who became friends for life. Today, for the first time in SIX YEARS, we are having a reunion. I am SO excited! Always looking for a way to turn an event into a training walk, I will be hoofing it out to Fairfax later this afternoon to the home of my friend, Sarah, who is hosting the gathering. I am a little nervous about the walk, as I'm not familiar with the terrain out there--I hope that the roads have sidewalks! It's just under 14 miles from home to Sarah's house, so my plan is to walk all the way out and then take the metro part of the way back, since I don't think I'm up for a 28 mile walk . . .Happy Saturday, everyone!
