"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

Shoe Déjà Vu

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you may recall that earlier this year, as I began to kick my training into high gear, I bought a new pair of shoes. I am experiencing a sense of déjà vu, because once again, I have a new pair of sneakers! My formerly new sneakers have been through more than 500 miles since I bought them in May, and although they are good for several more miles, I thought it would be smart to purchase a brand new pair before leaving for the 3-Day.

So last night, exactly four months to the day after buying my last new pair of Asics, I got another new pair. My plan is to break the new ones in enough that they can be the shoes I wear for the 60 miles, and I'll bring my now well-worn sneakers along as a back-up. Once again, as I did in May, I took a picture of old versus new. And here it is, for your viewing pleasure! I've walked 8 miles in them already, and I'm planning a longer walk for tomorrow.
