"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

A Wonderful Weekend

Wow! It was a great weekend! Forty miles with not a single blister! You can't beat that! That's right--I actually walked 40 miles this weekend, and I feel great! My knees are a bit sore as are my hips, but I really feel as if I could walk another 20 today if I wanted (needed!) to. Lucky me . . .I'll have just that opportunity in less than two weeks. Between the two of us, Mom and I walked about 70 miles this weekend, so I'd say it was a wonderful weekend all around.

The weather here in Virginia was picture perfect over the weekend, and I keeping my fingers crossed that we are lucky enough to have weather like this two weekends from now. I think my ideal forecast for the 3-Day would be sunny with low humidity and temperatures in the low 60s during the day and low 50s at night. And NO hurricanes. Since there's nothing I can do to control the weather, I'm doing my best to make sure that we're prepared for anything. And speaking of being prepared, my walker "credential" arrived over the weekend. Check it out!

Hey Diana!

It was you and your mom who motivated me "do something". I really wanted to do the walk but felt the need to do something more directly related to what my grandmother went through. The 3 day walk sounded fun to me, but I wanted it to be more specific to what she went through (although, cancer is cancer....) so I decided to do the marathon and raise money for the Cancer Society.

It is still up in the air though. Hopefully my knee will heal and I'll be able to train. If not, I'll have to find a plan B.

Only two more weeks! Geoff and I are excited for you!

Thanks so much to you and Geoff for your support! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you on your knee. Regardless, I know that your Nanny is very proud of you.
