"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

A Good End To the Week and a Confession

In spite of the fact that the weather today is typical of the DC-area summer (temperature in the high 80s with super-high humidity), I had promised myself that I would take a walk today. So I did.

And guess what? I walked ELEVEN miles. I'm feeling happy about that. I know that this only a little over half the distance Mom and I will cover on each day of the 3-Day in October, but considering the weather was as warm as it was, I feel like this is an accomplishment!

The walk went well. I took a 10-minute break halfway through to stretch and refill my water bottle. I actually felt better during the second half than the first--I fell into a really good stride, and the time flew by. I am hoping to keep up with this pattern of walking home from work and longer walks over the weekend. I've had a few people tell me over the past few days that my legs look really toned--how cool is that?!?

As for the confession. For some reason, during the entire walk, I was daydreaming about potato chips and onion dip. I have no idea why. I don't think I've even had onion dip since my senior year of college. But I couldn't stop thinking about this tasty, albeit unhealthy, snack. So, during the last mile of the walk, when I passed by the neighborhood Giant, I stopped in and purchased some (baked) Ruffles and (low-fat) onion dip, and I had some when I got home. YUMMY!! That is the end of my confession. :)

After 11 miles and all your walking this week, you could have had real potato chips and full-fat dip and you still would've had awesomely toned legs ;) Hugs, Belle
