I apologize for the brief hiatus in my blog posting . . .although I think that maybe Mom and Belle are the only ones who read this! Anyway, I just returned from my first [mini] vacation in over two years. (More to follow in a later posting.) Imagine my complete joy and surprise to find FOUR new donations upon my return home early this morning. Mom and I have now raised $1460, which means that we are nearly one-quarter of the way toward our goal of $6000.
Today, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Amy, Christina, Jessica, and Sandy. All four women have been friends of mine for years, and I am grateful to each one of them.
Amy and Christina, who happen to be sisters, are two of the most amazing people I know. Both have husbands who have served for a year (each!) in Iraq, and both have a family of wonderful children. They have been friends of mine for nearly a decade, and my life continues to be enriched by their friendship.
Jessica, who is a friend in her own right, also is the wife of my long-time friend, Kevin. I have to admit that this little blog of mine was somewhat inspired by her. She is a blogger of amazing talent (and has also written for the Washington Post!), and without her blog as a model, I think that you might not be reading these words right now.
Sandy and I worked together at the American Petroleum Institute, and although it's been nearly a decade (!!!) since I left API, we have remained in touch in the years since then. On the day that Mom told me she had been diagnosed with breast cancer (February 4, 1998), Sandy was the first to find me after I received that chilling news. She took me into her office, and without asking a single question, she gave me a hug. For that, and for her friendship and her support today, I will always be thankful.
