"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

Thanks to a Dear Friend

Mom and I have received another donation, and we are now up to $1275!! Today, I want to thank my dear friend, Susan, and her family. Susan and I have been friends for more than twelve years now. We met on my first day of work at the American Petroleum Institute, where I worked when I first moved here after college. Although we haven't worked together in more than ten years, we remain friends today, and our friendship has grown over the years, through dinners at the Cheesecake Factory and other fun adventures.

Every year that I have participated in a breast cancer walk, Susan has come out to cheer me on, greeting me with a smile on her face and providing me with words of encouragement, telling me that yes I can make it another mile (or 17!!). Susan has always supported the things that are important to me, and she holds a very special place in my heart. For her support today and for her friendship, I am very grateful.
