"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

Measuring Dedication

Concepts such as dedication, devotion, and commitment are hard, if not impossible, to quantify. How can I measure the commitment of my sponsors, who give money to this cause year after year after year, when sometimes it seems as if a cure for breast cancer remains distant? Is it possible to calculate the devotion of family members and friends that care for those who suffer from this disease?

If dedication to a cause can be measured by the number t-shirts in one's possession, then I think it's safe to say I'm fairly attached to the idea of a world without breast cancer. I say this somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but take a look at the picture below.
These t-shirts are just some of those I have received as a result of participating in breast cancer walks in the past ten years. Just think about how much more room I'll have in my dresser drawers once a cure for breast cancer is found!
