"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

A Night Off and A Thank You

Tonight, I will not be walking all the way home from work, although doing so has now become almost routine. Instead, I will take just a short walk or maybe ride the exercise bike for a while since it's so hot out, and then I will be heading to a concert at Wolf Trap. This is my first trip there this summer, and as always, I'm looking forward to it!

I'm happy to report that Mom and I are now 47% of the way toward our goal, having raised $2843.66 as of this morning. I am so thankful our family friends, Janice and Chris, who gave a generous donation to the 3-Day.

Janice and Chris have been dear friends for almost 25 years (which is hard to believe!). They used to live right around the corner from us when I was growing up, and we had dinner with them every Christmas Eve for a number of years. We have vacationed with them at their house in the mountains of Vermont and had many other fun adventures together. They moved away from New Jersey about 10 years ago, but we still remain in close touch and enjoy seeing them at any chance we get. I was lucky enough to visit them at their new home in New Hampshire two summers ago, and I didn't want to leave, both because of the beauty of the location and because it was so wonderful to once again be surrounded by the warmth and love of Janice and Chris. I am so grateful for their loyal friendship to the McCord family, and I am very appreciative of their generosity toward Mom and me.
