"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

There's a Whole Lot of Walking Going On

On Friday, I decided that I wanted to get a lot of walking done this weekend, but I wasn't sure it was actually going to happen. I had a busy day scheduled yesterday, including a lunch date with friends in Catonsville and plans to see a movie followed by a late dinner last night. I was also worried that bad storms forecast for today might put a damper on my plans.

But guess what? I walked TWENTY-FIVE MILES this weekend! Yesterday, after lunch in Catonsville (and after posing for the picture above!), I walked from Rockville all the way back to Arlington. I went straight down Route 355, which changes from Rockville Pike to Wisconsin Avenue. From there, I went west on M Street and followed the Key Bridge into Arlington. I felt sort of sleepy last night, but I really wasn't sore at all.

I worried that when I woke up this morning, I'd be feeling some muscle and/or joint pain, but I didn't! My stupid heel blisters continue to annoy me, but other than that, I feel great. Today, since there were bad storms early this afternoon and continuing rumbles of thunder for several hours after that, I opted to stay closer to home, and I did a number of loops around the neighborhood.

And now, I am done with my exercise for the weekend! I am feeling very hungry--I did some calculations, and I found out that I've burned more than 2100 calories with all of my walking this weekend. It's time to replenish some of that energy I've burned! Maybe I will even have a glass of wine to celebrate my almost marathon of walking this weekend. . .
