"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

Blisters Not Breast Cancer and a Request

On the walk in May 2001, I was one of about 60 people on a team that we named Blisters Not Breast Cancer. The idea behind the name was that we'd rather have blisters any day of the week than have another person diagnosed with breast cancer. By the end of that year's 60 miles, I had 27 blisters. I'm not kidding. Ouch! It's amazing how much pain those pesky blisters can cause.

This year, my goal is to have NONE by the end of the walk. We'll see how that goes. Unfortunately, I already have my first of this year, although it was caused by a pair of high heels rather than by training. It meant that I had to skip any walking yesterday, although I am hoping to get back to it today.

And here is my request. If you are able to donate to our walk, please split your donation 50-50 between Mom and me. (So if you decide that you are able to give $50 to our efforts, please donate $25 to Mom and $25 to me.) I know that this makes more work for you, since you have to fill out two pledge forms instead of one. But we will be really appreciative of the extra time it takes! Although we are registered as a team, we are each committed to raising $3000. While every dollar donated to us goes toward the team total, we each must raise money separately to be able to participate in the walk. Thank you for your support!!
