This Sunday, my wonderful friend, Belle, and I will join hundreds of others in a walk along the National Mall, organized by the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. Sunday will be the 30th anniversary of Y-ME, an organization created to ensure, through information, empowerment, and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone. Unlike the multitude of other amazing organizations out there (including Susan G. Komen, the beneficiary of our 3-Day Walk) that provide money for breast cancer research and for patient support programs, Y-ME does not raise money for research. Instead, Y-ME says that it helps those who are suffering today and can't wait for tomorrow's (or next year's or next decade's) cure.
Sunday also will be Mother's Day, and I cannot think of a better way to honor my mom and all of the other wonderful mothers in my life (Belle included!) than by participating in this event.
I have seen many people dear to me live with (and too often die from) this horrible disease. And I'm sure that upon the initial diagnosis, many of them asked the inevitable question: Why me?
I have another inevitable question: Why NOT me?
And for that selfish reason and for innumerable other reasons hopefully more selfless, I will continue this walk until the day there is no more breast cancer. I'm getting my dancing feet ready!

Yay, I'm so excited for Sunday! I have been practicing and Sammie is all set too :)
If I get tired, I will hop on the stroller with Sammie. :) Seriously, I think that I will walk home from the walk, and that will give me about 9 miles for the day!
