"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

In the Mailbox

My 3-Day Walk registration package arrived in the mail yesterday! I haven't had a chance to go through it yet, but I noticed this morning that it contains a walker handbook (full of guidance on training and blister prevention, as well as information on what to bring along on the walk), a welcome letter, a plastic holder for my walker "credentials," and a little pink pin identifying me as a 2008 walker. Fun! I expect that there is one on its way to Mom in New Jersey as well.

Just like my 12-mile walk on Sunday feels like an accomplishment, so too does receiving this envelope in the mail. I really am getting excited for October!
