"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

Thinking of Peanut Butter and Jelly

Yes, indeed. I'm the first to admit that this is a strange title for a posting to this blog. However, I really am thinking of peanut butter and jelly right now. Specifically, peanut butter and jelly tucked between two graham crackers. Even more specifically, the DELICIOUS peanut butter and jelly graham cracker goodies that have been a staple of every multi-day breast cancer walk in which I've participated. (For those of you counting, that would be four: 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2006.)

Food is never something that is lacking on the 3-Day Walk. Every 2-1/2 to 3 miles or so, there is a pit stop set up stocked with snacks--bananas, oranges, bagels, pretzels, water, and Gatorade, among other things. Of all of the items provided at these stops, my favorite has always been the peanut butter and jelly bars. I'm thinking of them now because Mom sent an email this morning mentioning them to me. And I just can't stop thinking about them. I guess I have a PB&J addiction. Or something. Is there a 12-step program for this?
