"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

A Nine-Mile Day

I walked 9 miles today! I find it much easier to get myself to walk if I have a particular destination in mind. So this morning, I walked to my hair appointment in Georgetown and then came back home. In spite of weather forecasts indicating clouds and rain, the morning was lovely and cool, with plenty of sunshine. My vote is still out on my hair, but that's another story entirely.

I didn't feel any muscle soreness after last weekend's 12 miles of walking, and I feel great now. I felt a little bit nauseated at about mile 8-1/2 or so, but I think that was due to the fact that I was stupid and hadn't brought any water with me. I stopped to get some and drank 20 ounces in record time. I felt completely better almost immediately. So, I've learned a lesson!

Mom, Dad, and Linda are on their way here for the night, having spent the past week in Hilton Head. Linda and I are having a slumber party, complete with ice cream sundaes and movies (although the former is a surprise). I NEVER buy ice cream. Truly. Because if I did, I'd eat it all! But I bought some at the store today, and I bought an ice cream scoop, too. Am I going to feel even a smidgen of guilt tonight as I indulge? No way! I think that my 9 miles of walking entitles me to a treat. Bring on the sundaes!!!

Bravo,Diana! I'm so moved by your commitment and so impressed with the walking you're already doing! You are WAY ahead of your team mate. She/I will have to do some fast and fancy footwork to even begin to catch-up. Oh, and my vote on your new hairdo: fantastic!
Love, Mom
