"We hold our heads high, standing tall but not standing still. Smiling, though faced with obstacles. Independent, yet deriving strength from togetherness. We would walk forever to overcome breast cancer, though the point of our journey is to shorten the road. Our song is filled with the weight of urgency, yet lifted by the lightness of joy. In the garden of our souls, commitment is tended by optimism. Surprise us in the quiet of our thoughts and you would find us thinking about victory, even when no victory is in sight. Because we are always looking ahead, to a place of health and long life--to the time we all dream of when we may cease our walking and begin to dance."

What Cancer Cannot Do

Many of you know what a big fan of counted cross-stitch I am. Some of you joke that I have CSADD (that's cross-stitch attention deficit disorder) because I have so many projects going at once!

The only reason I mention this is that I got a cross-stitch catalog in the mail last night, with pictures of all sorts of kits and threads and supplies. Imagine my surprise that buried toward the middle of a catalog was a picture of a necklace pendant which had the following words on it:

WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot destroy peace.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot suppress memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot invade the soul.
It cannot steal eternal life.
It cannot conquer the spirit.

I found it both interesting and timely that something like this should show up in my mailbox! Truth be told, I think that depending upon the circumstances, cancer can do all of these things. But only on a temporary basis, at least from what I've seen.
